Which cap should I choose?
RJ45 Waterproof and RJ45 Rugged Connectors
We frequently get asked about which caps will work with the RJ45 Rugged or Waterproof connector that they've chosen. The question is easy to answer, but can be difficult to find without a simple guide. Hopefully this solves that problem.
Plastic RJ45 connectors are called "Waterproof" - This one is threaded all the way to the end of the connector as you can see here with the arrow. Thus, you can use both a low profile or regular cap.
This connector works with these caps
Regular Cap - RR-1C213022
Low Profile Cap - RR-1C533122
*Note - The low profile cap allows you to use a thicker mounting panel while still giving a full seal.
Metal RJ45 connectors are called "Rugged" - This one isn't threaded all the way to the end of the connector as you can see here. It uses this space at the front to allow use of a bayonet style twist-lock. Because of this front area, the low profile connector used above won't work with it.
This connector works with these caps
Regular (Plastic) Cap - RR-1C213022
Regular (Metal) Cap - RR-2C213012
The bayonet style cap has since been discontinued from regular stock and eventually this style will be changed to a full thread.
*Note - This bayonet cap will not work with it. RR-1C532122; it's only meant for our circular connectors.
